How to request a Tree Preservation Order (TPO)

A request for a TPO should be made to the Council in writing and should include the following details:

A map clearly showing the area of trees or the location of an individual tree that you wish to be considered for protection;
The reason(s) why you wish the tree(s) to be considered for protection.

A request for a TPO can be made by anyone and you do not have to be in ownership of the tree(s).

The trees must be of a high amenity value and the Council, in considering whether to protect a tree(s) by a TPO, will assess its merits under the criteria for a TPO as set out in the document: Tree Preservation Orders - A Guide to Protected Trees | Department for Infrastructure (infrastructure-ni.gov.uk)

The Council will also commission a consultant arboriculturalist to carry out a health and condition survey of the tree(s).
