Expression of Interest - Proposed New Cemetery

Ards and North Down Borough Council is seeking expressions of interest from landowners who individually or jointly are in a position to offer circa. 14 hectares of land for consideration as a suitable site for a new Cemetery site or sites which it requires to enable it to accommodate the need for burial spaces within the Borough.

The existing municipal cemetery provision is reaching its maximum capacity with some of the cemeteries anticipated to be full within a short period of years. In light of this and the likely timeframe for acquiring the requisite lands and obtaining the statutory approvals for the development of a new cemetery or cemeteries, Council is keen to acquire suitable land which would have to meet a number of criteria in order to satisfy the requirements for such a facility, including centrality; accessibility; suitability (in terms of ground conditions etc.) and topography.

Ideally the land would be within the area bounded by Newtownards Road; Ballycrochan Road; Gransha Road South; Donaghadee Road and Drumhirk Avenue or in close proximity to this area. A map of the area can be found below.
