Greyabbey

Ards and North Down Borough Council was awarded £2,217,000 under the Covid-19 Small Settlements Programme (CSSP), which aims to address long standing issues in small settlements.  It supports projects that attract investors and visitors, and create vital and viable villages that meet the needs of local citizens and the surrounding areas.

COMMUNITY GARDEN

The proximity of Greyabbey Village Hall to the village, along with its accompanying amenities such as two tennis courts and a green space that is popular with dog walkers, highlights the area as a community hub that caters to various recreational needs. Additionally, the connection to a densely planted area owned by the National Trust adds to the natural appeal of the location, offering visitors a diverse and engaging outdoor experience in a scenic setting.

This project proposes to expand the facilities to include a natural play area within a copse of trees, offering residents and visitors a recreational space that combines greenery and outdoor activities.

The addition of amenities such as seating, picnic tables and cycle infrastructure will create an accessible and engaging communal space.

It is anticipated that works will commence onsite Spring 2024.

The CSSP is a collaboration between the Department for Communities (DfC), Department for Infrastructure (DfI) and the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA), working closely with local governments to identify priority projects in rural areas.
