Urban Waterfront Public Realm Development
Bangor's coastline and stunning sea views are some of the city's most significant selling points. The Bangor Waterfront Redevelopment programme includes Urban Waterfront Public Realm improvements which will enhance these sympathetically, sustainably, beautifully and in ways that people of all ages can enjoy them.
The largest project in the programme, this will be a significant investment in new public realm features along the waterfront, making the everyday spaces that people move through, and linger within, as attractive as they can be.
Travelling from Skippingstone in the west to Ballyholme in the east (or vice versa) should be a real voyage of discovery and we intend to use creative signage, pathways and artistic features to encourage more people to use the route and enjoy the journey.
Particular attention will be given to: Skippingstone Beach (potentially multi-use pods for beach activities, accessibility features, feature lighting/benches) and Ballyholme (water sports opportunities, feature lighting/ surfacing).
Council is currently out to tender for an ICT to design, develop and manage this project and it is hoped that an appointment will be made this summer.
