Additional bin capacity

There are certain circumstances when additional refuse capacity can be supplied.

Grey Bin

This is available to:

  • households with six or more people permanently residing in the property
  • residents with a medical condition/disability that generates additional waste

In these circumstances, the householder can buy an additional 240 litre bin for £25.50. Both grey bins will be collected together.

Blue Bins

Currently the larger 360ltr blue bin is being prioritised for:

  • households with six or more people permanently residing in the property
  • residents with a medical condition/disability that generates additional waste

If your household does not meet the above criteria, you can still request a larger 360ltr blue bin and this will be considered as resources are available.

A 360 litre bin costs £38.85.

Brown/Green Bin

If you are regularly filling your brown/green before your scheduled collection there are 9 Household Recycling Centres located throughout the Borough that can accommodate garden waste.

It is possible to apply for an additional brown/green bin at a cost of £25.50 and annual collection charge of £50.  All applications will be considered on a 'first come first served' basis for each bin collection route.

Each application received will be considered in the context of the prevailing demand/ spare capacity on the bin collection route that services the applicant's address. Where available capacity exists to accommodate the collection of the additional brown/green bin applied for, the application will be approved.  Otherwise it will be rejected.  The Council reserves the right to review the collection fee on an annual basis, and the householder will be notified of any intention to vary the fee.

Glass collection box

If you are regularly filling your glass collection box before your scheduled collection you can apply for an additional glass box (£8).  Glass bottle banks are also available at all nine of our Household Recycling Centres and at a small number of dedicated 'bring' sites.
