Councillor Jennifer Gilmour, the former Mayor of Ards and North Down (2023/24), presented a cheque to the three charities that she supported during her term as Mayor. The total amount raised was £13,961.79 which will be shared between K9 Search and Rescue Northern Ireland, the Royal British Legion's branches in Ards and North Down, and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) stations in Ards and North Down.

Every year, the Mayor of Ards and North Down selects charities that they support during their term. This year, residing Mayor, Councillor Alistair Cathcart, is raising funds for Action Cancer, the Sea Cadets (Ards and North Down units), and St. John Ambulance (Dufferin Cadets and Bangor and Ards Adults ambulance unit).

Mayor Alistair Cathcart said:

"I am delighted to see the success of these fundraising efforts. Charities in our Borough provide a lot of assistance to the people of Ards and North Down, and the work that they do is invaluable. I am determined to raise as much money as I can for the charities that I am supporting during my Mayoral term. With everyone's support, we can help make a positive difference."

Several fundraising events will take place during the Mayoral year and donations can be accepted online at www.ardsandnorthdown.gov.uk/mayorscharitydonation.
