Ards and North Down Borough Council will partner with the Royal British Legion to host the annual Veterans Day event in Conway Square, Newtownards, on Sunday 6 October.

As part of the event, a parade will be led by the Band of His Majesty's Royal Marines Scotland. Starting from Court Square at 3pm, the band will parade via Court Street and South Street to Conway Square where it will be received by the Lord Lieutenant of County Down. Following a Mayoral welcome, a Beating Retreat will take place.

The Mayor of Ards and North Down, Councillor Alistair Cathcart, said:

"The Veterans Day event is organised by the Council in partnership with the Royal British Legion and the Military. It has been running for several years and provides us with the opportunity to recognise the invaluable contribution of men and women from across the Borough who have served their country, both at home and abroad.

"The Band of His Majesty's Royal Marines Scotland will be performing this year. This band is one of five that make up the musical wing of the Royal Navy. They play a crucial role in boosting troop morale, supporting international diplomacy, and paying tribute to their fallen comrades. It has been six years since the Band last visited our Borough so I will be delighted to welcome them back to Newtownards."

Following the conclusion of the ceremony at approximately 4pm, the band will follow a return route from Conway Square to Court Square via High Street, Mill Street, Gibson's Lane, Regent Street, Frances Street, Castle Place and Castle Street.
