Partnership with Orchardville and ROC NI
Background
In 2024, the Council's Recycling and Community Halls teams partnered with local charities Orchardville and ROC NI to support the Winter Coat Project. The Project aims to help local people and families impacted by the ongoing cost of living crisis.
The teams facilitated the collection of coats through the Council's network of community centres and halls, creating convenient drop-off locations across the borough for residents who wanted to support the initiative.
Following collection, pop-up events were held in Bangor Elim and Kircubbin Community Centre to allow those who needed them to collect high-quality, gently used winter clothing such as coats, hats, scarves, and gloves , free of charge.
This project aims to offer practical support in a dignified and respectful way but is also a positive environmental initiative that aims to decrease the volume of textiles discarded in landfill by promoting reuse.
Upcoming Uniform Collection and Pop-up Shop - June/July 2025
In summer 2025, the teams will again partner with the charities to facilitate the collection and distribution of school uniforms to families.
Details to be confirmed.
