Acts of Remembrance 2024

The Council has received invitations to attend a number of Remembrance Day Services across the Borough.  Details of arrangements for Remembrance Day Services on Sunday, 3 November 2024 (Groomsport) and Sunday, 10 November 2024 are below.

Bangor   

Councillors will process to the War Memorial for 10.40am for the Remembrance Day Service.  After the service at the War Memorial, the parade will march through the city to the Royal British Legion Social Club and will disperse from there. Please note there will be no church service on this occasion.

Comber  

Comber Brass Band and a Piper will play in The Square from 10.15am. Councillors will form up at St Mary's Church with parade participants and march to the War Memorial in The Square for the Act of Remembrance and wreath laying ceremony at 11am. This will be followed by a Church Service in 1st Comber Presbyterian Church, High Street, Comber.

Donaghadee  

Councillors will attend a Church Service in First Presbyterian Church Donaghadee at 10.00am.  This will be followed by a parade to the War Memorial for the Act of Remembrance and wreath laying commencing at 10.40am. Councillors are invited to join the Deputy Lieutenant and other dignitaries to take the salute. 

Holywood  

Councillors will parade from Queen's Leisure Complex at 10.45am to be in place at the war memorial for 10.50am.  After the 2 minute's silence at 11.00am, the Parade will proceed to St Phillip and St James Parish Church, Church Road, Holywood.  

Newtownards   

Councillors to parade from Old Cross Street car park at 10.00am to the Cenotaph, Court Square, Newtownards. Following a wreath laying ceremony at 10.10am, the Royal British Legion will parade to First Ards Presbyterian Church for the Remembrance Service which commences at 11.30am.  After the Church Service the parade will march back to the Royal British Legion. 

Ballywalter  

Councillors to parade from the Beach Car Park, Main Street, at 10.40am for an Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial at 10.50am.  This will be followed by a Church Service at Ballywalter Parish Holy Trinity Church at 11.00am.  The Parade and march past will take place at approximately 12.05pm.  

Craigavad Helen's Bay  

A service of remembrance will be held at Helen's Bay Presbyterian Church. The service starts at 10.30am. 

Groomsport  

The Groomsport Remembrance Day Service will be held on Sunday, 3 November 2024 at 2.45pm. Councillors will parade from the Walter Nelson Hall, Main Street,to the War Memorial at approximately 2.30pm. There is no Church Service. 

 Millisle  

Councillors are asked to meet at the Royal British Legion, Churchill Avenue at 10.30am to parade to the War Memorial for a short Act of Remembrance at 11.00am.  The parade will then proceed to the Millisle and Ballycopeland Presbyterian Church, for the Service at 11.30am.  

 Portavogie   

A service of remembrance will be held at Portavogie War Memorial, Harbour Road, Portavogie at 9am.
